APRA Annual Awards Nomination Deadline (29 May 2013)

Recognizing Excellence in the field of Parks, Recreation, Cultural and Community Services

All 2013 APRA Award Nominations, including the Awards Nomination Form and supporting documentation, must be submitted via e-mail to cgallagher@glendaleaz.com, after registering and paying the nomination fee.

Nomination Deadlines:

Early Bird Deadline ($20 per nomination)
All nomination information must be received by the Awards and Citations Committee Chair via email by no later than 5 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2013.

Late Deadline ($30 per nomination) EXTENDED!
All nomination information must be received by the Awards and Citations Committee Chair via email by no later than 5 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2013.

Nominating Tips
Each year the Awards Committee receives approximately 100 nominations. Each nomination is carefully reviewed by a panel of APRA members from around the State. Their responsibility is to select the most outstanding nominations for recognition. When submitting a nomination, please consider the following suggestions:

Read the criteria for each award category and the nomination procedures carefully;
The committee suggests that you use award criteria headings when writing your nomination. Each criteria is assigned a point value. Nominations should provide information pertaining directly to each award criteria.
Nominations should be clear, concise and well written;
Submit complete nomination materials;
Spend time preparing the nomination application; and submit

2013 Arizona Track & Field Showcase

The Phoenix Regional Sports Commission is continuing in the tradition of the Showcase Series by announcing the creation of the Arizona Track and Field Showcase, coming June 7-8, 2013 to Chandler High School in Chandler, AZ. This 18U Track and Field Showcase, is open to any participants 18 years of age or younger. Additional event and registration information can be found online via the link provided.

The mission of the Sports Commission is to "Enrich Our Community Through Sports" by representing the citizens of the Valley to bring national and international sporting events to the state, assist in the promotion of existing events and teams, and support youth sports programs. Achieving Zero Waste Events and Facilities!

Lately many organizations are setting “Zero Waste” goals in their programs and events in which they implement. Alana Levine, at ASU, has been very successful in this venture and has agreed to share her wealth of knowledge and best practices in this environmentally friendly 3 hour work session.

This in-depth workshop will provide you the tools necessary to assess current programs, set appropriate goals and benchmark progress. Attendees will be given information and best practices to plan, pilot, implement and benchmark Zero Waste Programs and Events. You will leave with information on how to market and communicate Zero Waste efforts in your respective agencies and give you a variety of programs that work! Don’t want to miss this!

Alana Levine has over 18 years of experience in environmental activism and recycling. She has run recycling and solid waste programs for The University of Arizona, MIT in Cambridge, and now for ASU.
