The Save Our Mountains Foundation (SOMF) at the North Mountain Visitor Center (NMVC) will host the seventh Music in the Mountains acoustic folk music festival on Saturday October 8 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The festival features an assortment of some of the best acoustic entertainers in the valley who have generously donated their time to help SOMF in their once a year fund raising opportunity. New this year is the addition of a food truck, from Mr.Martz Central Coast BBQ
We thank you for your support of the Save Our Mountains Foundation (SOMF) efforts to preserve and protect the open space of the Phoenix Mountains Preserve since 1970. SOMF enabled the re-opening of the North Mountain Visitor Center in January of 2011 along with its collaboration partners. Since then, the Center has been the welcoming portal of the Phoenix Mountains Preserve. SOMF continues to develop awareness of our delicate desert habitat through educational programs. The unique and fabulous Preserve system allows locals and visitors alike to experience, firsthand, the beauty of our desert spaces and to appreciate wildlife that has adapted over the centuries to live in this dramatic and beautiful location.
While this is our 5th annual Music in the Mountains event, in the North Mountain Visitor Center exhibit hall, we have actually held many concerts to raise money for SOMF missions. Hundreds of people attend the events each year. The funds raised during this year’s event will go toward land acquisition that will continue to preserve the open spaces and make them available for recreational purposes as well as for wildlife habitat, which is SOMF’s main mission since the 1970’s.
