The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Playground Maintenance Course is a one-day (6.25 hour) educational course that covers the following topics – an overview of playground safety standards and guidelines, playground owner responsibilities and maintenance discussions on playground equipment, surfacing and site items.

How does this class differ from CPSI?

This is a one-day training that does not involve a test. The course will provide participants with an understanding of the most prevalent playground hazards and safe maintenance and repair practices. This course will train you on playground safety standards, playground owner responsibilities and will include maintenance and repair discussion on equipment, surfacing and site items. 


Participants will receive a certificate upon completion of the Playground Maintenance Course from NRPA.


Who Should Enroll?

Professionals who should take the course include maintenance staff, recreation staff, university seniors and any individuals who are responsible for playgrounds.


What is included in the cost of the course?

Book, on-site training by a certified NRPA instructor, certificate of completion, and .6 CEU's 

Fees associated with the course will vary by location and are based on instructor travel expenses and other associated costs.

What is required to host a training?

  • Classroom space for up to 30 
  • Audio Visual Equipment - screen and projector
  • Playground must be located preferably within walking distance or a short drive from the classroom location
  • Playground must have a variety of equipment (swings, slides, climbers, spring toys, composite playground equipment etc.)
  • Playground should be spread out to ensure the entire class can occupy the playground at the same time
  • Host agency must make arrangements for use of the park 
  • Near restaurants so participants can take a quick lunch break if sponsorship is not secured by APRA
  • Guarantee to meet the minimum number of 15 (from agency, local schools, businesses, etc.)
  • Staff on-site to meet the instructor and get the class started

Participants

The minimum number of participants to run the course is 15 with a maximum of 30
