  The Interest List provides APRA with insights and preferred location information. We will schedule courses where greater need is apparent by those listed.

  The Playground Maintenance Course is a one-day (6.25 hour) educational course that provides participants with an understanding of the following:

  • basic playground hazards
  • application of safe maintenance practices on equipment
  • identifying surfacing types
  • proper maintenance procedures, and
  • establishing proper record keeping practices 

  Participants will receive a certificate of completion from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) via email after the successful completion of the course.

  The Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) program is designed for pool operators and management staff in aquatic facility operation and management and is the most comprehensive and up-to-date training on operations, mechanical systems, water chemistry, disinfection, and safety.

  Certification is achieved with a passing score of 78% on the 3-hour, open-book AFO Exam. AFO certification is valid for five (5) years.

  IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION

  Course materials are mailed 4-5 weeks in advance of the course to allow participants time to review/study the content prior to attending.

  As a result, the deadline to register or make changes to an existing registration, including transfers and refund requests, must be made on or before the 45th day prior to the course start date. 

  All refunds are subject to a 25% administrative fee.
  

  
  

  No shows and last minute cancellations forfeit all paid registrations and/or are responsible for full payment of registration without refund. APRA is required to provide a guaranteed number of participants in advance and must adhere to the national deadlines.

  MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR! 

  

  With over 40 years of experience in the aquatics field, Lori Thompson has had the opportunity to be involved in many aspects of the industry. She is an experienced trainer and teacher overseeing the training of aquatic staff for many years.

  Ms. Thompson holds her Bachelors and Masters in Organizational Leadership from Biola University. She is an AFO instructor and has worked as an instructor trainer with the American Red Cross, Ellis and Associates, and Australian Swim School. She is also a licensed pool technician and holds CPO and Aquatech certification. She is a certified Aquatics Professional and has received several awards including the Paragon Award from the International Swimming Hall of Fame. She is a past board member with the Association of Aquatic Professionals and is on faculty with Starguard and Starfish Aquatics. She is an author and speaker on a number of aquatic topics.

  Your APRA membership must be active and paid in full to receive the member registration discount. New member registrations cannot be added to the system after June 1. Member discount is based on your membership status, not your agency. The system requires members to log in from the home page before offering member rates.  If you register and pay at the incorrect rate, thank you for your donation. APRA will not make changes once payment has been processed.

  

  The system automatically cancels UNPAID REGISTRATIONS within 15 minutes. A credit card must be used to pay at the time of booking.
